SHAM VALLEY – BABY TREK

Perfect for first-time trekkers or those looking for a gentle adventure, the Baby Trek offers a beautiful introduction to Ladakh’s landscapes and culture. This short, scenic route winds through traditional villages, lush valleys, and modest mountain passes—without the intensity of high-altitude expeditions. Ideal for families, beginners, or anyone seeking a relaxed pace, it’s a rewarding journey through the heart of the Himalayas.

Often referred to as the “Baby Trek,” this gentle multi-day hike through Ladakh’s Sham Valley is perfect for beginners and those looking for a light, culturally immersive trekking experience. The trail connects a series of charming villages—Likir, Yangthang, Hemis Shukpachan, Ang, and Temisgam—each offering a glimpse into traditional Ladakhi life.

Trekking days are short (6–12 km), with moderate ascents and well-defined paths crossing low mountain passes like Phobe La, Chagatse La, and Mebtak La. Along the way, you’ll pass barley fields, streams, prayer flag-lined ridges, and centuries-old monasteries. Overnight stays in camps or homestays offer warm hospitality and local flavors.

Ideal for families, solo travelers, and anyone wanting a taste of Ladakh’s landscapes without the strain of high-altitude trekking.

Accommodation
In Delhi, we stay in a standard hotel with air-conditioned rooms. In Leh, accommodation is arranged in a standard hotel conveniently located near the local market and town centre, or in a comfortable family-run guesthouse. Wi-Fi is available in Leh; however, international mobile phones generally do not have network coverage in Ladakh.

Accommodation & Trek Support

This trek is operated on a lodge and or homestay basis, allowing you to experience the local culture and hospitality of the region. Our experienced trekking staff will take care of all logistics and meal arrangements, so you can enjoy the journey carrying only a day pack.

Accommodation is provided in a combination of local homestays and simple lodges along the trekking route. Rooms are generally shared on a twin or multi-share basis, depending on availability. Facilities are basic but comfortable, offering an authentic insight into life in the mountain villages.

Meals are prepared by your hosts and typically include a variety of local and simple international dishes. Common dining areas provide a warm and welcoming place to relax and socialize after each day’s trek.

Running water and bathroom facilities are available at most lodges and homestays, although standards may vary from village to village. Due to the remote nature of the trek, accommodation and facilities should be considered simple but adequate, adding to the adventure and cultural experience of the journey.

Worth Knowing

• In India, it is common for hotels to provide hot water only at certain times of the day to conserve energy. If your shower water is cold, please inform the reception so they can switch on the water heater.
• Toilet tents used during camping consist of a dug pit (prepared by our camp staff) inside a tent. Dirt or sand is provided beside the pit to cover waste after each use.
• Single rooms and single tents are available on request for an additional supplement, subject to availability. Please enquire at the time of booking.
